What a CMP actually does

A CMP presents the banner, categorizes cookies (strictly necessary, functional, analytics, advertising), gates scripts so nothing non-essential runs before consent, and keeps a record of each visitor's choice. Good ones also detect browser opt-out signals and keep the cookie list current with automated scanning.

Why a plugin alone often is not enough

A banner that displays but lets analytics and pixels load behind it does not collect valid consent. The blocking, categorization, and record-keeping are what make consent real, and that is the difference between a full CMP and a simple notification bar.
